New Zealand has surged past both India and Australia to claim the top spot on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table following their impressive 281-run victory over South Africa in the first Test.

Previously sitting in third place, New Zealand's commanding performance in the series opener significantly boosted their Points Percentage System (PCT), propelling them ahead of India and Australia.

In the cricket standings, New Zealand boasts 2 wins out of 3 games, tallying 24 points. Australia, with 10 matches under their belt, secured 6 victories and 1 draw, accumulating 66 points. India follows closely with 3 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, earning 38 points and a percentage of 52.77%. Other teams like Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, and England have also displayed their prowess in the field. Sri Lanka, unfortunately, stands winless with 0 points and a percentage of 0.

The Blackcaps exhibited dominance in the first Test against South Africa at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. Led by Kane Williamson's gritty century (118) and Rachin Ravindra's double century (240), they amassed 511 runs in the first innings. South Africa struggled in response, being bowled out for just 162. Despite having the chance to enforce the follow-on, New Zealand chose to bat again, with Williamson adding another century to his tally.

In the end, the visitors were restricted to 247, securing New Zealand's victory with Kyle Jamieson leading the bowling attack with four wickets.
