The New Zealand women's cricket team has announced their ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia, which will take place from December 19 to December 23.

The squad features a mix of young talent and seasoned veterans. A notable addition is Bella James, who is set to earn her maiden cap. Unfortunately, star bowler Lea Tahuhu has been ruled out of the series due to a leg injury.

Bella James Debuts, Lea Tahuhu Misses Out

Bella James, primarily known for her domestic performance, shows significant promise. The Timaru-born player has scored a total of 161 runs in her last 10 innings at an impressive strike rate of 104.55. Her inclusion in the squad brings the potential for a fresh face in the batting lineup, boosting the White Ferns' prospects.

The Kiwis will miss Lea Tahuhu, who has played 97 ODIs and taken 115 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 4.54. However, the bowling attack still holds strong, with Brooke Halliday, Fran Jonas, Jess Kerr, Melie Kerr, and Molly Penfold providing good variety.

The ODI squad presents a hopeful mix that could challenge the Australians. The top order will be led by skipper Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates, while Lauren Down and Izzy Gaze are likely options to anchor the innings in the middle overs.

All-rounders Eden Carson and Maddy Green will also play vital roles, adding depth to the lineup and posing challenges to the Australian bowling attack. Although Australia has historically dominated the White Ferns, this squad shows promise and aims to pose some serious threats.

The series opener will be held at Basin Reserve in Wellington on December 19 at 3:30 AM IST.
