In a thrilling moment during the second T20I match against Zimbabwe in Harare, Afghanistan's Gulbadin Naib found himself in the hot waters. He faced a fine of 15 percent of his match fee and was slapped with one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

The action was centred around a rather spirited display of dissent following an umpire’s decision where Naib mocked and nagged for requesting a DRS review, even though he did not had the review available.

Naib's Mock Prayer Gets Answered With A Fine

Gulbadin was called out for violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code, which pertains to "showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match" as quoted by ICC. The penalty imposed includes a minimum official reprimand, a maximum of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

The incident took place in the 11th over of Zimbabwe’s innings when an LBW appeal against Tashinga Musekiwa was rejected after a delivery from captain Rashid Khan. In a dramatic turn, Gulbadin resorted to a mock prayer and even called for a review, despite the absence of DRS in the game.

Naib's reaction didn’t go unnoticed, and now he’s added one demerit point to his record for this first-time offense in a 24-month timeline and also deducts 15 percent of his match fee. He accepted the charge laid by on-field umpires Langton Rusere and Forster Mutizwa, third umpire Iknow Chabi and fourth umpire Percival Sizara. The fine proposed by Andy Pycroft, the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, which meant no formal hearing was necessary.

Afghanistan Bags 2nd T20I With Ease

Speaking of the match, Afghanistan levelled the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe with a convincing 50-run victory in the second match. Darwish Rasooli's half-century helped Afghanistan post a competitive total of 153/6. Naib also contributed with 26 runs off 21 deliveries.

In reply, Zimbabwe struggled to keep up with the required run rate, with only Sikandar Raza and Brian Bennett offering any resistance. Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq were the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan, picking up three wickets each.
