In a major setback to the Afghanistan cricket team, spin wizard Rashid Khan is highly likely to be ruled out of the upcoming pivotal T20 series against India.

The neighboring nations are scheduled to clash in a three-game T20 series starting tomorrow. Interestingly, the Afghanistan board placed Rashid on the 15-member squad for the tour despite injury concerns.

Rashid Khan underwent lower back surgery a couple of months ago, which led to his absence from the UAE series and the ongoing Big Bash League. Not only that, the spinner was also replaced as the captain of the Mumbai Indians Cape Town due to his unavailability for the entire SAT20 tournament.

Needless to say, Khan’s selection for the India series raised many eyebrows. Regardless, the spinner joined the team in its first practice session at the iconic IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. He mostly reviewed the net session and offered a few pieces of advice to his teammates.

Rashid Khan To Skip T20I Series Vs India?

Meanwhile, according to a report from Sportstar, Rashid Khan is highly unlikely to feature in the impending T20 series against India. His lower back injury is yet to heal. While Khan has resumed bowling to a certain extent, he is yet to commence full-fledged training. Most importantly, the Afghanistan cricket board and team management alike, are in no mood to rush its big superstar’s rehabilitation.

Having said that, even as Rashid Khan is unfit to field, he will likely play the role of a mentor to his side as he did during the ODI World Cup. The spin wizard carries extensive experience and is well-versed in the Indian conditions. Thus, his presence in the dressing room will surely help his team gain an edge over the opposition.

Additionally, in case Rashid misses out, Noor Ahmed and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman are candidates for like-for-like replacement.

That being said, the crucial three-game T20 series is set to commence tomorrow, with the first matchup being held in Mohali.
