Records are being shattered every now and then in the ongoing Test match between England and Pakistan at the Multan Cricket Ground. Harry Brook and Joe Root went all guns blazing on day 4 of the first Test to put England in the driver's seat.
From day 1, the curators and pitch came under scrutiny as several cricket pundits including Kevin Pietersen labelled this track as a 'Bowler's Graveyard.' Multan has been criticised for its flat track as Pakistan, batting first, put 556 runs on the board, while England shattered several records after they amassed 823 runs on the board before declaring the innings.
Nasser Hussain Takes A Dig At Multan Pitch
The internet went into a frenzy after the heroics from Root and Brook. Notably, Brook smashed a triple-century while Root scored a double ton. In the latest events, former England skipper turned commentator Nasser Hussain took a dig at the strip and presented a gully-cricket-like suggestion.
Since wickets were failing to fall, Hussain suggested that a player should be declared out in Multan if he misses the ball thrice. Nasser said: "If a batsman misses 3 balls, he should be declared out on this track."
It was not all at Hussain vented more frustration at the Multan strip and remarked that Test cricket cannot afford such tracks.
"Test cricket cannot afford for this pitch to continue playing in the same way for all five days. It is incredibly flat and, for the future of the longer format, pitches need to do something. At the moment, it has done nothing for two days. No spin, no swing, no reverse swing. It is too batter-friendly and Test cricket needs an even contest between bat and ball," Nasser wrote in his column in the Daily Mail.
After stumps on day 4, Pakistan are 152/6 and trail by 115 runs. If Pakistan lose by an innings, it would be a rare occasion when a team has lost a Test match despite putting 500+ runs in the first innings.
