In a significant development, Suryakumar Yadav is all but set to lead India in the Asia Cup 2025. An injury threat loomed over the star batter in the last few days, but the latest report mentioned that the 34-year-old will be a part of the selection meeting.

Notably, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will assemble for a key meeting on August 19, when they announce the squad for the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup, starting from September 9 in the UAE.

The report from Gaurav Gupta of TOI added that SKY will be a part of the key meeting, where he will share his opinion and play a key role in the 15-member squad selection.

SKY’s Injury Concern Put To Rest

A few weeks ago, Suryakumar was having a race against time to be fit from his sports hernia and succeeded in it as the right-handed batter resumed training at the nets in the NCA.

However, there were reports that a few last-minute changes might be expected, and SKY had to travel to Japan, which was thought to be an injury concern. Although the latest development has shrugged these concerns under the carpet.

Shubman Gill To Not Lead India In All Three Formats Soon

The news of SKY set to lead India in the Asia Cup 2025 has also put the rumour mill to rest that Shubman Gill is set to be appointed as India's all-format captain following the success in England.

Notably, Gill is all set to succeed Rohit Sharma after his ODI retirement, but he is far behind in the pecking order to replace SKY in T20Is. However, the upcoming Asia Cup can mark Gill's return to India in the shortest format of the game.
