Mumbai Hosts Spectacular ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Trophy

The ICC World Cup 2023 Trophy Tour touched down in Mumbai on Tuesday. The city is the latest stop in a grand journey of the coveted trophy that began on June 27.  The significant event was celebrated at the Bombay Scottish School in Mahim and welcomed a host of eminent figures from the cricketing world.

Former Mumbai captain, Milind Rege, former India pacer, Raju Kulkarni, and Cricket Secretary of Mumbai School Sports Association, Nadim Memon, graced the occasion with their presence. Nearly 4,000 students which included twenty school cricket teams, were also given the rare opportunity to pose with the illustrious ICC World Cup Trophy.


Mumbai basked in the glory of World Cup 2023 Trophy

The current trophy, first introduced and designed for the 1999 World Cup, was adopted by ICC as the continuous reward for clinching the team winning the World Cup. As part of the trophy tour, this symbolic prize will travel across 18 ICC member nations spread over five regions - Asia, Africa, North America, South America, East Asia Pacific, and Europe.

The upcoming World Cup which is scheduled to run from October 5 to November 19 is set to be the largest tournament in the history of the sport. The marquee event, spanning 46 days, will be hosted by ten cities across India.

Competing for the prestigious trophy will be top ten cricket teams from across the globe. Eight of these teams have secured their spots through the Cricket World Cup Super League, with the final two to be decided after the conclusion of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe on July 9.

The tournament's inaugural match will unfold at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which has also been chosen to host the final. The opening showdown will witness a repeat of the ICC World Cup Final 2019 as England take on New Zealand on October 5. 

Hosts India will begin their pursuit of glory against the five-time World Cup victors Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
