After hosting a handful of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, including qualifiers in the past, New Chandigarh's Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur will get to host its first international game. The venue, built on the outskirts of Chandigarh, will host the Australian women's team for two one-day international matches on September 14th and 17th, respectively.

Rainfall Not A Cause Of Concern, Believes PCA President

Despite heavy rainfall, the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium is all set to host its first international game when the Australian women's side arrives at the venue for two of the three ODI matches to be played against the Indian women's team ahead of the Women's World Cup 2025.

According to PCA (Punjab Cricket Association) president Amarjit Singh, the venue has been equipped with some high-class standards. Despite heavy rainfall and weather challenges, it is expected that the game will proceed without much waiting time.

Previously, the Mullanpur stadium has hosted a few IPL matches, including playoffs, especially for the home side Punjab Kings (PBKS), which have turned out to be some high-class thrillers, as the venue has always proved intimidating for opposing teams.

It is worth noting that Punjab has witnessed heavy rainfall in the past few weeks, which has been a major cause of concern. However, the PCA President has clearly stated that the venue has overcome several challenges and is fully prepared for the next one.

"The drainage system is good. Even if we experience heavy rainfall, the water will clear out in a maximum of 40 to 45 minutes," Singh said.

Mullanpur Stadium To Maintain High Standards

Additionally, special arrangements have been made for the teams, including accommodations, practice facilities, and travel, with all necessary requirements, such as training, gym, and recovery rooms, being provided, while the venue has a seating capacity of 38,000 with floodlights for the day-night encounters.

Moreover, the security and crowd management teams have been working in tandem to ensure the safe conduct of the games, given that the infrastructure is top-notch, considering it is an upcoming international venue.

As for the game, the Indian women's team will play the Australian women's team in three ODI matches ahead of the scheduled World Cup. Both teams will engage at this venue on September 14th and 17th, respectively, while the third ODI will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on September 20th, where all the matches will begin at 1:30 PM IST.
