Pop culture and cricket go hand in hand, as they have been through, for generations. Hence, Bollywood's involvement in cricket is not a biggie. Recently, the superhit Bollywood movie Saiyaara has earned praise for its emotional and romantic plot; however, it also had India's cricketing star Virat Kohli featured in it.

Saiyaara's hero and star cast member Ahaan Panday shared his experience shooting the film, as it featured a turning point which is initiated by Virat Kohli's cricketing shot.

Ahaan Panday On The Virat Kohli Scene

In the film, Virat Kohli featured with his famous explosive six as the film's female protagonist, Aneet Padda, enacted it. Aneet Padda's attempt to lift Ahaan Panday's spirits after a fight with his father leads to a powerful and genuine moment as she imitates Virat Kohli's famous shot.

Notably, this scene served as the story's emotional turning point and the beginning of its romantic arc. Ahaan recently reflected on filming this tribute to his inspiration, Virat Kohli.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ahaan shared that portraying his character Krish in this scene felt both challenging and liberating.

“For the character, I had to tap into things before. During the auditioning process, we’d always create the scenes, so when I was on set, I just let go of everything. I had to let go of the habit of directing myself. I completely surrendered and submitted to Sir," he explained.

The Hard Work Behind The Scene

Ahaan further revealed that the cricket pitch scene needed complete honesty to enact as the director wanted natural acting for the scene.

“I didn’t plan anything; we’d just learn the lines on the way because we wanted to be raw and real. We’d learn 80 per cent of the lines, because we didn’t want it to be very mechanical. There were a couple of days where I was like, ‘I have to go back to that; I have to rehearse,’ but the greatest thing was Mohit sir trusted us so much," Ahaan said.

While the film went on to become an instant box-office success, Virat Kohli’s subtle yet impactful shot stood out especially because of his legendary status in Indian cricket. The scene turned into one of the most celebrated moments of the movie, winning over fans and adding a unique charm to Saiyaara.
