Mujeeb Ur Rahman Pays Heartfelt Tribute To Delhi Crowd After AFG's Famous Win Over ENG

Afghanistan's mystery spinner, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, has expressed his appreciation for the immense support shown by Delhi fans on October 15 during their remarkable victory over England in the 13th match of the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.

In this historic encounter, Afghanistan pulled off one of the greatest upsets in ODI World Cup history, defeating the defending champions, England, by 69 runs. 

Mujeeb played a significant role in this extraordinary victory, and he was seen consoling and hugging a young fan after the match. In his post, the spinner also revealed that the young boy was from Delhi, India.

He wrote, 

"It's not an Afghani boy; it's one young Indian boy. So happy for your win. It was an absolute pleasure meeting this little guy from Delhi, India last night. Cricket is not just a game; it's an emotion. A big thank you to all our amazing fans for coming down and supporting us last night. The love and support are overwhelming. We are grateful for your continuous support and can't wait for you to keep supporting us in the future. Thanks for the love, Delhi."

The video of the young fan, which Mujeeb mentioned in his tweet, hugging the Afghan spinner after the match has gone viral on social media, and fans have been showering praise on him.

In the match, Afghanistan batted first and posted a total of 284/10 in 49.5 overs. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the top scorer with a brisk 80 off 57 balls, while wicketkeeper-batsman Ikram Alikhil contributed with a vital 58 off 66 balls.

Defending this competitive total of 284, Mujeeb showcased his skills with the ball, taking three crucial wickets. He dismissed Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Chris Woakes, ending with impressive figures of 10-1-51-3. Rashid Khan also took three wickets for 37 runs, while Mohammad Nabi claimed two wickets. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq contributed with one wicket each. 

Mujeeb wasn't just a star with the ball; he also made a significant contribution with the bat, scoring 28 runs in just 16 balls, which played a crucial role in Afghanistan's successful total of 284.

Afghanistan play their next game against New Zealand on October 18 in Chennai.
