On Sunday, January 12, Afghanistan announced their squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the side for the prestigious fifty-over event that starts on February 19 in Pakistan.

Surprisingly, the major missing from the 15-member list is spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who has been left out. Meanwhile, new spin sensation Allah Ghazanfar has found a place in the squad. Here is the complete list.

Afghanistan squad: Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, Ikram Alikhil, Gulbadin Naib, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, AM Ghazanfar, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Farid Malik, Naveed Zadran.

Reserves: Darwish Rasooli, Nangyal Kharoti, Bilal Sami

Mujeeb Ur Rahman Playing In SA20 2025

It is worth noting that Rahman, who was also ruled out of T20 World Cup 2024 because of injury, is currently featuring in SA20 2025. He played a match on January 11 and also picked up a couple of wickets. Although, there are reports, that Mujeeb was not available for selection because his doctors had advised him to play just T20Is because of his reoccurring finger injury.

Talking about Afghanistan, it looks a balanced side, but the team have been hit with boycott threats. Notably, similar to Australia, England and South Africa have been asked to not play against Afghanistan because of Taliban's oppression against women.

Notably, the Taliban have banned women's sports and England, South Africa have taken this matter seriously. The two sporting nations want the situation to improve in Afghanistan and are urging other teams as well to not play against Afghanistan.

Afghanistan are placed in group B alongside Australia, South Africa, and England.
