The wait is over as India will take on the England side in a riveting 5-match Test series, commencing on June 20. The series will be the start of a fresh WTC cycle for Team India who faced disappointment in the last cycle. Also, with the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired, quite a few changes have been witnessed in the side.

In the absence of the two stalwarts, the onus will be on the likes of Rishabh Pant and the new captain, Shubman Gill to carry the batting on their shoulders. Pant, especially has a chance to recover from his poor IPL 2025 season and once again prove his worth in red-ball cricket.

The series also presents a chance for Pant to surpass former keeper-batter, MS Dhoni and become the most successful keeper in Indian history.

Pant set to surpass MSD's centuries tally

Pant's batting has come under scrutiny in white-ball cricket but in Tests, he is one of the best in the world. He is known as the game-changer in red-ball cricket and the upcoming Test match provides him a chance to surpass his idol, MS Dhoni in centuries-tally.

Both the great keeper-batters have 6 centuries each in Test cricket and if Pant scores one in the Headingley Test, he could surpass MSD and become the Indian keeper with the most tons in red-ball cricket (7).

Out of the 6 Test centuries, three have come against England, and two of them have been scored in their backyard - Oval and Birmingham. He also has a century each against Australia, South Africa and Bangladesh.

Other MSD record Pant can break

Not only the century tally, Pant also has his eyes set on another MS Dhoni record. In SENA countries, Pant has 1,681 runs, in 26 Tests, at an average of 37.35. He needs a fifty to surpass MS Dhoni and become the highest-scoring Asian wicket-keeper in SENA nations.

MS Dhoni had accumulated 1,732 runs in 32 SENA Tests, at an average of 31.47 and it also included 13 fifties.
