Veteran Indian keeper-batter MS Dhoni had a memorable outing with the bat on Sunday evening, hammering a belligerent 16-ball 37* against Delhi Capitals in match 13 of the IPL 2024 in Visakhapatnam. 

Coming at number eight, Dhoni smashed four glorious boundaries and three humongous sixes, making the fans nostalgic through the fireworks during his brief stay. 

On the other hand, his finishing partner Ravindra Jadeja received massive backlash for his knock as he crawled his way to a sloth-paced 17-ball 21 during CSK's 192-run chase. 

So, considering Dhoni's overwhelming performance, fans and experts demanded his batting promotion, urging the superstar to come up the order in CSK's upcoming fixtures.

Meanwhile, legendary Australian batter and Dhoni's former IPL teammate Steven Smith has also supported the move, asking the stalwart to capitalise on his batting form. 

"I think Dhoni did not miss the middle of the bat - it was incredible to watch - let him go up the order to bat," Smith told Star Sports. 

He also lauded Dhoni for maintaining his fitness and being able to play the game even at 42. He said, 

"MS Dhoni is not 42 years old, he is 42 years young". 

Notably, this was the first time Dhoni batted in the IPL this season. After handing over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, the former Indian skipper seems more focused on his batting. 

He will next be seen in action during CSKs fourth group-stage game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 5.
