India's legendary batter Virat Kohli aims to break Sachin Tendulkar's illustrious batting record in the upcoming fourth Test against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Hailed for his genius batsmanship, Kohli has had a torrid run in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Although he struck a flamboyant century in the first Test at Perth Stadium, India's number four failed to replicate a similar success in the subsequent affairs.

Meanwhile, Kohli has always been a force to reckon with the bat at MCG, amassing 316 runs, including one ton and two fifties, at an average of 52.66. Meanwhile, the God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar claims the top spot among India's most prolific performers at MCG, scoring 449 runs at an average of 44.90. 

Most Test Runs For India At MCG

As shown in the above table, Tendulkar is at the top of the pile, with Rahane, Kohli, Sehwag and Dravid occupying the second, third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively. 

Thus, Kohli is only 134 runs away from breaking Tendulkar's record and becoming India's most successful batter at the iconic venue. Furthermore, if he scores a half-century in the Boxing Day Test, the legendary cricketer will record the joint-most fifty-plus scores by an Indian at MCG. 

Virat Kohli's Rough Patch In Test Cricket: A Concern For Team India?

Regarded as India's finest batter in the modern era, Kohli hasn't been able to live up to the expectations in the Australia Tests. More importantly, he averages only 31.67 in Tests since January 2020. So, his prolonged rough patch is a serious concern for team India, and it won't be surprising if he gets dropped after not performing consistently in the BGT.
