The first Test match of the ongoing two-match series between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan  ended with a draw. In the match, both teams combined made record-breaking 1428 runs – the highest total ever in a Test match in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe were the first to bat after winning the toss, and they took full advantage of a flat deck at Queens Sports Club. The hosts' openers set the tone early, with debutant Ben Curran making an impressive 68 off 74 balls, marking his maiden Test fifty. 

Sean Williams and Craig Ervine built a formidable 163-run partnership. However, it was Williams knock that stole the limelight, as he registered his highest-ever Test score of 154 runs. The Zimbabwean innings was propelled further by Brian Bennett, who remained unbeaten on 110 runs and helped his team post a massive total of 586. 

Chasing the target, Afghanistan had a poor start with Sediqullah Atal dismissed cheaply for just 3 runs. A marathon partnership then unfolded between Rahmat Shah and Afghanistan's captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi.

The pair put together a record-breaking 364-run partnership, the largest in Afghanistan’s Test history. Both players reached double centuries, with Rahmat Shah making a sensational 234 runs from 424 balls. Shahidi, not to be outdone, scored 246 runs off 474 balls.
