Bangladesh women’s head coach, Sarwar Imran, suffered a minor brain stroke on Monday, September 29, while the team was training in Colombo ahead of the Women’s World Cup 2025. The Bangla Women are set to play their opening match against Pakistan on Thursday, October 2.

Sarwar Imran hospitalized with Minor Stroke

Team manager SM Golam Faiyaz confirmed that Imran is now stable, as quoted by ESPN.

"(Sarwar) Imran sir was feeling dizzy a couple of days ago, and it continued on Monday. We took him to the hospital where the doctors detected he had a minor brain stroke," said Faiyaz.

Imran was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday and is now resting at the team hotel. He was eager to join Tuesday’s training session, but the management asked him to rest. He hopes to be back on the ground with the team on Wednesday.

It is worth mentioning that Imran took over as the women’s head coach earlier this year, replacing former Sri Lanka captain Hashan Tillakaratne. The 66-year-old is a highly respected figure in Bangladesh cricket, having previously coached the men’s team during Bangladesh’s first-ever Test match in 2000.

Under his guidance, the women’s team secured qualification for this year’s World Cup, which is Bangladesh’s second appearance in the tournament after their debut in 2022.

Notably, this year’s ODI World Cup is a big opportunity for Bangladesh, who managed to qualify despite tough competition in the qualifiers. The team led by Nigar Sultana will be hoping for strong performances.

Team Bangladesh will open their World Cup 2025 campaign against Pakistan in Colombo on Thursday, October 2. After that, they will play all their remaining matches in India.

Their schedule includes games against England on October 7, New Zealand on October 10, South Africa on October 13, Australia on October 16, Sri Lanka on October 20, and India on October 26 in the final group stage match.
