Following the major controversy during the Asia Cup 2025 finale, where the Indian team were not handed the trophy, the decision to hand over the medals and award still remains in limbo. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided, in a recent meeting, that the full member boards should determine the fate of the trophy.

ACC leaves it to members to decide the fate of the trophy

After the major standoff between ACC president and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the Indian cricket team during the Asia Cup 2025 final presentation ceremony, the trophy and the medals were taken away by the PCB chief, along with him, at the ACC headquarters. He decided not to hand over the accolades to the Indian team, who refused to accept them from him at the podium.

However, the Asian Cricket Council, after its meeting with the board members, has decided that the decision to hand over the trophy shall be left with the full-member boards: India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, according to Cricbuzz. They will have to make the call on who will hand over the trophy and how they will proceed.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC), alongside PCB, have been asked to organise a formal offline meeting where they will have to reach an agreement about the matter, which has been making headlines since the final on Sunday.

ACC meeting ends in a stalemate

The BCCI, meanwhile, have decided that they will take up the matter with the International Cricket Council (ICC) at the meeting in November. It has also been revealed that the ACC meeting was attended online by Rajiv Shukla and Ashish Shelar, alongside Naqvi.

Meanwhile, the election of the vice president and finalisation of the schedule for other ACC events, such as the emerging players tournaments and under-19 tournaments, were on the agenda but not taken up for discussion.

With all the hustle and bustle going on in the world of cricket, it is highly unlikely that any conclusion will be reached anytime soon, considering the enormity of the issue.
