Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been selected in Bengal squad for the upcoming 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy season. The legendary speedster has already played a number of T20 and first-class matches for Bengal off late in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy tournaments.

Having last played for Team India back in March 2025 this year amid injury concerns, Mohammed Shami’s upcoming Vijay Hazare stint could prove pivotal in his pursuit of an India recall.

Mohammed Shami plots India comeback with Vijay Hazare return

Mohammed Shami is set to turn up for the Bengal team in the upcoming 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy season. The legendary fast bowler has already played a number of Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches.

Shami has also been in exceptional wicket-taking spree with the ball, having scalped 36 wickets across all formats in the ongoing Indian domestic season.

A couple of months ago, the speedster returned to the Bengal team after an injury lay-off that kept him out of competitive cricket since the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the UAE.

Since the multi-nation ICC event, Mohammed Shami was excluded from some high-profile tours and home series, including the five-Test tour of England, the white-ball trip to Australia, the entirety of the 2025 Asia Cup and the home series against West Indies and South Africa.

Nonetheless, in the Bengal team, Mohammed Shami will be teaming up with fellow Indian fast bowlers Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep. Abhimanyu Easwaran will be leading the team in the tournament.

Under Easwaran, the Bengal team will face Vidarbha in their opening Elite Group B match of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy. The match will be hosted by the Sanosara Cricket Ground A in Rajkot on Wednesday, December 24.
