On June 11, Australia will lock horns against South Africa in the WTC final at Lord's. Ahead of the crucial red-ball event, the players are sweating hard in the nets. The Temba Bavuma-led side are eyeing their first ICC Trophy in 27 years, while Australia are looking to defend their title. 

Before the big game, players sat down for media interactions, and a clip is now going viral focusing on Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. Notably, Josh recently won the IPL with RCB, where he picked up 22 wickets.

Australia Teammates Poke Fun At Hazlewood For His Nickname

The Australia seamer impressed the fans with his performance and earned the moniker of 'HazleGod'. The chants echoed across the stadiums. Recently, the ICC media members asked Josh's Australian teammates about the new nickname, and Starc couldn't hold his laughter.

The left-arm seamer burst out laughing and wished for the name to stay revealing that Hazlewood isn't a big fan of this moniker.

“Hopefully, it sticks because I don't think he likes it too much. He's had a fantastic few months, the big fella over in India, and he's come home with bags of cash. So I look forward to seeing him in action here at Lord's,” said Starc.


“HazleGod, he actually referred to himself as it the other day, which totally took me back by surprise,” said Lyon.

Josh Hazlewood Reacts To Being Referred As 'HazleGod'

The 34-year-old thanked the fans for showing love but also remarked that the new name might now click in Australia.

“Yeah, hopefully, it runs out of steam pretty quickly. It's flattering, obviously, to hear it around the grounds in India, but I don't think it'll take off in Australia,” said Hazlewood in a video posted on the official Instagram handle of ICC. Watch The video here.

For the unversed, Josh Hazlewood has maintained a clean streak when it comes to final and is yet to lose one.
