After 15 months away from Test cricket, Cameron Green is set to return to Australia's playing XI, this time as a specialist batter, in the WTC 2025 Final against South Africa starting June 11. He is open to batting at no.3 in the top order, a position he is very familiar with from his junior days.

Green has been away from the cricket field for the last many months due to back surgery. After gruelling hard work in rehabilitation, the all-rounder is set to make a comeback in Australia’s Test team.

In the upcoming World Test Championship final against South Africa, Green will play as a specialist batter, as his body cannot bear the toll of bowling in Test cricket.

Cameron Green Open To Bat At No.3

Interestingly, Cameron Green’s comeback also opens up a spot for Beau Webster, who is likely to bat at six, while Steven Smith, who temporarily opened after David Warner's retirement, is now back at No. 4.

That leaves Green as a strong candidate to bat at No. 3, a position he hasn’t often occupied at the first-class level but one he’s very familiar with from his junior days.

"You grow up through your whole career, you speak to anyone here, they've definitely batted in the top three or four throughout their whole junior career. I was no different, batting three until you get to first-class cricket. Absolutely no issues batting at three when you've done it your whole life," Green told ESPN Cricinfo

With his bowling on hold due to recurring back injuries, the all-rounder is embracing his revised role with confidence and calm.

Finch Questions Labuschagne's Spot Ahead Of WTC Final

Former Australian skipper Aaron Finch questioned Marnus Labuschagne's spot in the Test XI, questioning his decreasing strike rate and absence of counter-attacking intent. Labuschagne averages just 28.33 this WTC cycle, with Finch warning, “You can’t let world-class bowlers bowl at you endlessly.”

With Sam Konstas pushing for selection and Cameron Green emerging as a potential no.3 candidate, Labuschagne faces stiff competition ahead of the WTC 2025 Final.
