For any aspiring cricketer growing up, the support of parents becomes extremely critical.

India's Sachin Tendulkar, who became a child prodigy at 16, has often given the credit for his incredible career to his parents, who permitted the star batter to follow his dreams and not care about outside noise.

Today on December 18, Tendulkar took to social media and remembered his late father Ramesh Tendulkar, who would have celebrated his 93th birthday if alive. The 'Master Blaster' as fondly called by cricket fans around the globe, inked a heartfelt note for his father, highlighting the importance of freedom and love in a child's growth while wishing his late dad a happy birthday.

"My father was always caring but never strict. He let me choose what I wanted to do in life and supported me unconditionally in my quest to achieve my dreams. I think the way he raised all his children--always giving us love and freedom--is an excellent lesson in parenting. His thinking was ahead of his time, and that’s one of the million reasons why I love him so much. He is why I am. Happy birthday, Baba. I miss you every day."

Sachin's father was a celebrated Marathi literature poet and novelist, who passed away in 1999 aged 68, while Tendulkar was playing in the ICC World Cup in England. Tendulkar dedicated his 101-ball 140* against Kenya to his father, having rejoined the Indian squad after attending the latter's funeral and missing the Zimbabwe encounter.

Interestingly, the 50-year-old made his ODI debut for India on December 18 in 1989 against Pakistan at Gujranwala.
