In the recently ended Women's World Cup, the Australia Women's side faced a massive heartbreak after being knocked out of the semifinal stage. For skipper Alyssa Healy, the disappointment was compounded as an injury setback forced her off the field, making the heartbreak even harder.

Missing the Sydney Sixers' tournament opener due to injury, Alyssa Healy has delivered a major boost for her side. Brushing off her injury, she is back in the squad for the next match against the Hobart Hurricanes.

After an exceptional campaign in the Women's World Cup 2025, Australia Women bid the hardest goodbye to the tournament after facing a defeat against India Women in the semifinal. The woes deepened for captain Alyssa Healy as she missed the opening game for the Sydney Sixers' side due to a thumb injury that she sustained in the semifinal clash while dropping a sharp catch of Jemimah Rodrigues.

Healy's absence was also a big blow for the Sixers, but before stepping into the next match, they received a massive boost. Ahead of the match against the Hobart Hurricanes, Healy is back in the squad. Speaking on her comeback, Sydney Sixers coach Matthew Mott said he was always confident the star wicketkeeper-batter would return to the side.

“I've been led to believe the type of injury she's got, it's more about just managing the pain. So functionally she's fine, and if that's the case (that she can manage it) she'll definitely be in the team,” he said.

"(She's) very tough, I think most 'keepers are. Most keepers don't give away too much, they're constantly in pain and their fingers and thumbs cop a battering, so I think it's part and parcel of the job that they do. But they also don't like missing games, and Midge is exactly like that, she's desperate to play,” he added.

Mott hails Healy as a true leader on the field

Alyssa Healy has played only a handful of WBBL games recently, with injuries keeping her off the field. But as the Aussie skipper is set for another return, the Sydney Sixers coach praised her leadership, hailing her as 'Spiritual Leader'.

“She's one of the best players in the world and has been for a long time, so she's very crucial (to the side), she's also one of the spiritual leaders of the Sixers as well, so that leadership helps us a lot,” he said.
