Mumbai Indians (MI) got some good news ahead of the IPL 2025 restart as England all-rounder Will Jacks confirmed he’s coming back to India. Putting an end to speculation about his availability, Jacks posted on Instagram, sharing a picture of himself on a flight to Mumbai, showing his commitment to play the remaining matches of the season.
Will Jacks Confirms His Arrival
There were talks that MI might bring in Jonny Bairstow and Richard Gleeson as temporary replacements for Jacks and Ryan Rickelton if the team makes it to the playoffs. Jacks, however, will be available for the last two group-stage matches but won’t be part of the playoffs due to his commitment to England’s ODI series against West Indies.
If MI reaches the knockout stage, Bairstow is likely to take Jacks’ spot, as long as he gets the necessary clearance.
Will Jacks has been a key player for MI this season, playing in 11 of the 12 group matches, scoring 195 runs, and taking five wickets with his off-spin bowling. He was named Player of the Match twice, in home victories against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants.
The 18th season of the IPL had been temporarily halted because of rising military tensions between India and Pakistan, forcing foreign players to return home. This left many teams uncertain about their line-ups. Jacks’ return is a big relief for MI, who are currently fourth on the points table with 14 points and still fighting for a spot in the playoffs.
While some overseas players, particularly from Australia and South Africa, have already opted out due to commitments to the World Test Championship final, Jacks is among the few to confirm his return.
MI’s final group-stage games are against Delhi Capitals on May 21 and Punjab Kings on May 26.
