Agni Chopra, the son of renowned film director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, has been turning heads in the Ranji Trophy plate group with exceptional batting performances. Over the past four first-class matches, Agni has notched up an impressive five centuries, establishing himself as a formidable presence in the plate group.

Agni Chopra candidly assesses IPL snub

His noteworthy achievement garnered significant attention, particularly when he became the first player in history to achieve four first-class centuries in as many matches. Despite his familial ties to Bollywood, Agni's passion for cricket has always taken precedence, steering clear of any inclination towards the film industry.

In a recent interaction with PTI, Agni disclosed that he never sought any special treatment from his father to advance his cricketing career, including attempts to secure a spot in any of the IPL teams associated with the film industry. Despite delivering a stellar performance for Mizoram in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he amassed 234 runs at a formidable strike rate of 150.96, Agni Chopra found himself overlooked by IPL franchises.

Reflecting on his non-selection, Agni humbly acknowledged that perhaps, he is not at the required level yet. He reiterated his desire to earn opportunities solely based on merit rather than relying on familial connections. The youngster highlighted his commitment to earning his place in any team, asserting that he wouldn't want his father to use his influence to secure him a spot

"May be I am not good enough so I wasn't picked. "For me, I want to be picked for anything based on my pedigree, it shouldn't be because of anything else. I don't think my dad would ever pick up the phone and tell anyone just because I told him to. I have to be good enough so that they are calling my dad, rather than my dad calling them,” said Agni.

Expressing reservations about being selected solely due to his father's influence, Agni pointed out his preference for earning his place in the playing eleven based on his skills and abilities.

"If something like that (his father pulling ranks) happened, may be I will be picked in squad, but surely, would not get to play in the eleven. I don't want to be in a team where I am picked because of a phone call and then I am not going to play," added the 25-year-old.

Meanwhile, given his current sensational form, Agni has undoubtedly captured the attention of IPL teams, and he will aim to maintain his strong performance to bolster his position for the next IPL auction.
