The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) honoured Team India wicketkeeper, KS Bharat in a special ceremony at the YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Thursday, February 1. This recognition comes as Bharat marks a significant milestone by becoming only the second cricketer from Andhra Pradesh to participate in a Test match at his home ground.

KS Bharat receives felicitation from ACA for milestone Test match appearance

Hailing from Vizag, Bharat's journey in cricket began at the tender age of 11 with the Andhra domestic team, and he has since risen to notable heights in the sport. Bharat's association with the YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium stretches back to his youth, having been one of the ball boys during the memorable ODI match between India and Pakistan in 2005.

The ACA organized the felicitation to celebrate Bharat's achievements and his contribution to Indian cricket. The secretary of the ACA, Gopinath Reddy confirmed the plans for the event, noting that although a request was made for February 2, the Indian team's schedule necessitated holding the ceremony a day earlier.

“Yes, we have planned a felicitation ceremony for Bharat. It will happen here in the stadium itself on the Upper Floor of the South Stand. We requested a time for 2nd Feb, but the Indian Team management has given time for the 1st, so we will he doing the felicitation on Thursday,” said Reddy while speaking to Cricketnext.com.

Meanwhile, KS Bharat's inclusion in the Indian Test team in recent months highlights his growing importance within the squad. His participation in the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia and the ICC World Test Championship final last year show his critical role.

Additionally, Bharat was part of the Indian lineup for the first Test of the current series against England in Hyderabad, a match that did not go in India's favour. As India aims to rebound from the initial setback against England, Bharat's performance at his home ground is anticipated with great enthusiasm, especially considering India's aim to secure three wins from three Tests at this venue following the series opener loss.

It is worth mentioning that Bharat joins the elite list of Andhra players to represent India in Tests, a list that includes MSK Prasad and Hanuma Vihari, showcasing the significant contributions of Andhra Pradesh to Indian cricket.
