Cricket Australia (CA) on Saturday, October 28, announced their 15-player squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Team India, which follows the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023.

In the absence of senior players like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh, the veteran wicket-keeper batter Matthew Wade will captain the team. Marsh, who led the Australian side in South Africa, is being rested for the T20I tour.

Cummins, who is leading his country in the World Cup, will return home to prepare for Australia's home Test series against Pakistan and the West Indies. Furthermore, other first-choice stars like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Cameron Green will also skip the T20Is in India.

After the conclusion of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, eight members of the Australian squad will continue their stay in India as part of the 15-player lineup chosen for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the Men in Blue.

Returning in the T20I setup alongside Wade are senior players David Warner and Steve Smith. Additionally, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Travis Head are also included in the T20I team.

With the absence of the pace trio, Nathan Ellis will lead the bowling attack, partnered with left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff, Spencer Johnson, and Sean Abbott as the quartet of fast bowlers.

For spin options, Adam Zampa and Tanveer Sangha will provide wrist-spin capabilities. When required, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, and Tim David will chip in with the ball.

“Matthew (Wade) has captained the team previously, is a leader in the group and we look forward to him taking the reins for this series. Like Mitch Marsh in the South Africa series, this is another great opportunity to further deepen our international leadership experience and depth. It’s always a great challenge to take on India on their home soil. Most of the squad have extensive experience in playing in India, including eight members of the current ODI World Cup squad, alongside Tanveer Sangha who is currently a traveling reserve,"  said chief selector George Bailey.

The five-match T20I series is scheduled to commence on November 23, with the first match taking place at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
