Pakistan's vice-captain Shadab Khan acknowledged that his team hasn't delivered their best performances in the ongoing World Cup 2023. However, he remains optimistic that Pakistan can turn things around and embark on a winning streak, starting with their upcoming match against South Africa in Chennai on Friday, October 27.

Despite their initial successes with wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, Pakistan has suffered three consecutive defeats, putting them in a challenging position in the tournament.

Shadab emphasized the team's determination to bounce back and perform at their best in the remaining matches.

"We know the art of coming back from such situations. We haven't played our best cricket in the tournament, but it's not always that we will play badly. Everyone has off days, but I believe we need to get on a winning streak, and hopefully, we will start that winning streak from tomorrow,"  Shadab Khan stated during the pre-match press conference in Chennai.

Shadab admits to struggles

Shadab also addressed his own underwhelming performance in the global event thus far, acknowledging that he has been fairly criticized for not performing up to expectations.

"I have been fairly criticized since I have not been able to perform well. An all-rounder should do well in all three departments of the game,"  Shadab mentioned.

The World Cup has indeed been a challenging tournament for the spin-bowling all-rounder. Shadab has managed only two wickets in four matches and scored 74 runs in three innings.

Pakistan's overall performance has also been below par, with just two wins in five games. As a result, they currently find themselves in fifth place on the points table with four points after five matches.

With a hat-trick of losses, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan team are facing the possibility of an early exit. To turn their fortunes around and have a chance at reaching the semi-finals, Pakistan will need a remarkable effort from all their players in their upcoming matches, as every game from this point onwards is a must-win situation.
