The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is inching toward the business end of the tournament, with three playoff spots still vacated after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) became the first team to book their berth.

In these desperate times, Rajasthan Royals (RR) top-order displayed a poor batting performance against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2024 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Before Riyan Parag (47 not out off 35) and Dhruv Jurel (28 off 18) flourished with the bat; RR top-order, including, Yashasvi Jaiswal (24 off 21), Jos Buttler (21 off 25) and captain Sanju Samson (15 off 19) displayed sloppy batting performances as the visitors posted a decent total of 141/5 after opting to bat.

Netizens took note of the poor batting intent from the visiting side and ignited a match-fixing controversy on X, recalling their last ban from the lucrative tournament.

Check out the reactions here:

Incidentally, RR and CSK were banned for two years from the IPL for the involvement of their key officials in betting activities during the 2013 season.

In the ongoing season, RR are one win short of booking a spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs, as they sit second in the points table with 16 points in 11 matches, while CSK are currently fourth in the table with 12 points from as many matches. However, a win against RR will boost the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side's chances to qualify for the playoffs.
