In a significant development, there are reports that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has barred its players from participating in foreign leagues to protect and improve the quality of its domestic cricket. According to a report from the Telegraph, the ECB is looking to deny NOCs to players to retain their services for domestic tournaments.

At present, there is a franchise league across the globe every month, and there is some or the other English star featuring in it. But, the ECB wants to change things up and secure talent for tournaments like The Hundred and Vitality T20 Blast.

ECB Wants Players To Focus On Domestic Tournaments

It is worth noting that the ECB has exempted IPL from this plan of theirs and will allow their contracted and non-contracted players to feature in the cash-studded league in India. But this is a massive set-up for Pakistan as PSL is likely to take place in April next year because of the Champions Trophy 2025, and there could be a lack of quality English players in that edition.

The ECB will not allow players to play in other leagues if they conflict with the T20 Blast or the Hundred. The ECB chief remarked:

"We need to protect the integrity of our sport and the strength of our competitions in England and Wales as well. This policy gives clarity to players and professional counties around our approach to issuing No Objection Certificates. It will enable us to strike the right balance between supporting players who want to take up opportunities to earn and gain experience, while also protecting the integrity of cricket globally, ensuring we don’t undermine our own ECB competitions, and managing the welfare of centrally contracted England players," said Richard Gould, ECB chief executive as quoted by the Telegraph.

Earlier, there were reports that the PSL franchises had feared that overseas players would prefer IPL over PSL.
