For over a month, speculation has been swirling around Sanju Samson’s future with the Rajasthan Royals (RR), with persistent rumours suggesting the 30-year-old captain could join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2026 season.

After a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign marred by poor form and injuries, Samson’s position at RR came under scrutiny. In his absence, teenage prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi, impressed fans with his fearless batting, while Yashasvi Jaiswal further cemented his status as RR’s most consistent performer since debut.

Social Media Sparks Trade Talk

The trade rumours intensified when Samson’s manager, Prashobh Sudevan, liked a cryptic social media post suggesting a potential switch to CSK. This subtle online gesture quickly caught the attention of fans, fuelling speculation that the Kerala wicketkeeper-batsman might don the yellow jersey in 2026.

Reports soon followed that RR and CSK were in preliminary discussions for a potential trade deal. According to sources, CSK expressed interest in acquiring Samson, while RR would receive veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and all-rounder Shivam Dube in return. If this deal is done it could benefit both franchises strategically.

Samson’s US Visit Raises Eyebrows

Adding to the buzz, Sanju Samson recently travelled to the USA, where he was reportedly seen meeting members of the CSK management on the sidelines of the MLC tournament. Although no official statements have confirmed the meeting’s purpose, many believe it may have included informal discussions around a potential trade.

In a recent development, Samson was spotted having lunch with Siddhartha Lahiri, Rajasthan Royals’ Head of International Player Development on July 16, 2025. Lahiri, who has worked closely with Samson over several IPL seasons, posted a photo of the meeting on social media with the caption, “Lunch with the skipper is always great fun.” The post has sent fans into a frenzy, with some interpreting it as a sign that Samson will continue with RR.

While nothing is official yet, the uncertainty around Sanju Samson’s IPL future continues to dominate headlines. Whether he stays on as RR captain, joins CSK as a long-term successor to MS Dhoni, or surprises everyone with a third option, will likely be determined before the IPL 2026 auction window.
