The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) are involved in a serious scheduling conflict over their upcoming white-ball series. Set to take place across the United States and the Caribbean from August 1 to 12, the tour was expected to include three T20Is in Florida, followed by three ODI's in Trinidad. However, disagreements between the two boards have now put the ODI leg under threat.

CWI, PCB Not On Same Page For August Series

At the center of the dispute is Pakistan’s insistence on converting the entire six-match series into T20I, citing their strategic focus on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in 2026 and the Asia Cup in 2025. The PCB has conveyed to CWI that it wants the Trinidad ODIs scrapped and replaced with additional T20 matches.

On the other hand, CWI is determined to retain the ODI format in the Caribbean leg, especially after the West Indies' painful absence from the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. It is important to mention that CWI believes playing more 50-over games is vital for rebuilding and giving exposure to emerging talent in the format.

Speaking to Cricbuzz on Wednesday, CWI CEO Chris Dehring confirmed that talks with the PCB are ongoing. “The schedule remains as it is, and we continue to engage with the PCB on the matter,” said Dehring, who is currently en route to Singapore for the ICC Annual Conference. Both boards are expected to continue their negotiations on the sidelines of the meeting.

The original tour plan has the three T20Is scheduled for August 1, 3, and 4 in Lauderhill, Florida, followed by three ODIs on August 8, 10, and 12 in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Pakistan & WI's Next Tour

Pakistan will play a short T20I series in Bangladesh from July 20 to 24 before heading to the US. Notably, the team is without several senior players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan. Meanwhile, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan also miss out due to ongoing rehabilitation.

The West Indies, fresh off a 3-0 Test series loss to Australia, are currently preparing to host the Aussies in a five-match T20I series from July 21 to 29, a crucial buildup for their own white-ball ambitions. This makes the upcoming Pakistan series even more critical for CWI, especially in the ODI format.
