Ahead of their much-anticipated IPL 2025 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, April 27 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have dropped a major clue regarding the potential return of their express pacer, Mayank Yadav.

Mayank, known for clocking speeds above 150 kmph, has not played any form of competitive cricket since India’s T20I series against Bangladesh back in October 2024. Since then, he has battled back and toe injuries.

Will Mayank Yadav Play Today?

On Saturday, April 26, LSG took to their social media platform to post a video. In the clip, Mayank Yadav is seen with the bowl and that could be a possible indicator that the young speedster might be back in the mix for this crucial encounter.

LSG shared a video, hinting at Mayank Yadav's on-field return. The post read: "Kal dikhega tabadtod andaz", which translates to "Tomorrow, a fierce style will be seen."

Why Is Mayank Yadav Not Playing?

It is important to note that, Mayank Yadav was earlier ruled out of the first half of the tournament due to a back injury. However as he recovered he was named in the impact players for LSG’s match against the Rajasthan Royals on April 19 but did not get to bowl.

He was also included among the 'Impact Player' options during their match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 22. While Ayush Badoni was eventually chosen over him in that match.

With LSG currently sitting sixth on the IPL 2025 points table with 10 points alongside MI, who are at the fifth position.  It might just be the perfect time to reintroduce the speedster into the playing XI to add some firepower to their pace attack.

Who Could Be Dropped If Mayank Yadav Plays?

If Mayank Yadav is finally included in the playing XI today, LSG will need to make room for him in a lineup. Shardul Thakur has been delivering strong performances, while Akash Deep and Avesh Khan have also maintained solid form with the ball.

This puts the spotlight on Prince Yadav, who has not made a notable impact in recent matches and might be the one to make way if LSG decides to go with Mayank’s raw pace.
