Rohit Sharma brought his inimitable style and humour to the fore at the pre-match press conference for India's epic ICC World Cup 2023 finale against arch-rivals Australia in Ahmedabad.
Before the two great oppositions lock horns at the summit clash set to be attended by a whopping 1,30,000-seated crowd on Sunday (November 19), the Indian skipper relaxed the atmosphere in the press briefing with his hilarious jibe.
The jibe was reserved for the attendant media, which had quite a few journalists forgetting to keep their phones off during the question-answer session. As one of the phones rang, Rohit got a touch irritated and amusingly said on the mic, "phone band rakho yaar (keep the phones switched off, mate)".
It was another hilarious moment involving the skipper during a media interaction. Over the years, the experienced Indian opener has come to be renowned for his timely puns and funny remarks that lighten up the mood for everyone in a press-player interaction, bringing his Mumbaiya slang and humour to the plate.
Rohit's Hilarious Comment As Phone Rings During Presser
Earlier in the presser, Rohit asked India's media manager to skip his introduction to the present journalists since they all already know him. The unintentionally funny cricketer said, "arre ye sab jaante hain yaaar, aage badho (man, they all know me, let's go on with things)". The comment had created hysteria inside the press room.
It wasn't all fun and games, however, as Rohit gave a serious response when asked whether there were any sense of nerves inside the change room at the prospect of turning up for a World Cup final, something only two players part of the existing squad have experienced before.
"Whenever we play such a tournament, the current form of players is more important than playing World Cup finals in the past. We have two players from 2011 as well who have been part of the World Cup final. We know how to handle pressure. We want to continue the way we have played so far," he said.
