As per reports, top international stars like Kane Williamson and David Miller will likely join the roster of the new franchise.

LPL likely to receive sixth team in 2025

The LPL 2025 season will likely be introduced with a sixth franchise for further expansion next year. Legendary New Zealand batter Kane Williamson and explosive South African white-ball export David Miller are expected to join the franchise as some of its star attractions.

The fifth edition of the LPL came to a conclusion earlier this month through the 2024 edition at the iconic R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The high-octane finale between Galle Marvels and Jaffna Kings was attended by more than 100 ICC board members, including ICC chairman Greg Barclay. The ICC officials had originally visited Sri Lanka to attend the ICC AGM.

Greg Barclay also handed the LPL 2024 trophy to fourth-time winner Jaffna Kings during the presentation ceremony after the final.

The LPL holds a prestigious place in Sri Lanka’s cricketing lore. Ever since its inception in 2020, the five-team annual competition has birthed several Sri Lankan international stars like blistering opening batter Pathum Nissanka and spinner Maheesh Theekshana.
