Why RCB will be under pressure [Source: @IPLT20.COM]
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 resumes after a week as the border tension between India and Pakistan eased up and the league, which was suspended resumes with a mouth-watering contest between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB sit at the second spot in the points table and a win tonight will guarantee them a place in the IPL playoffs. KKR, on the other hand are still in contention for a playoff place and a win against RCB will strengthen their case.
Despite being in a strong position in the league, RCB cannot take KKR lightly. The Royal Challengers defeated Knight Riders at Eden Gardens this season, but the game at Chinnaswamy will be a different battle and here's why.
Why RCB's dismal record Vs KKR go against them
Interestingly, RCB have a dismal record against KKR at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. They last defeated the defending champions, KKR in 2015 at the Chinnaswamy and it has been 10 years since they last won against them.
Post that season, RCB have lost against them in t he 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2023 and 2024 seasons, which makes it six losses in a row at the same ground. Hence, the odds are stacked against Rajat Patidar's men.
What happened the last time RCB defeated KKR?
In the 2015 edition, KKR batted first at Chinnaswamy and in a rain-curtailed match, KKR posted 111/4, with Andre Russell being the top-scorer with 45 off 17 balls.
In reply, Virat Kohli, the RCB captain played a quick-fire knock of 34 off 20. However, it was Mandeep Singh, who finished the match with a blazing 45* off 18 balls to steer RCB to a win.
