India is set to lock horns with England in the second Test of the five-match series, commencing on Friday, February 2, at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The hosts are looking to overturn the series after England's remarkable comeback win in the opening match in Hyderabad, which gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.

IND vs ENG 2nd Test: Team Previews

India

Rohit Sharma led Indian team faced a rare home defeat, only their fourth in the last 47 Tests since 2013. England's stunning 28-run victory in Hyderabad, overcoming a 190-run first-innings deficit, has set the stage for a thrilling contest. India, without stalwarts Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, will aim to level the series.

The team has introduced uncapped players Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan, expected to fill the void left by Rahul and Kohli, the latter of whom is missing the first two Tests due to personal reasons. Spinner Washington Sundar is tipped to replace Jadeja in the lineup. The hosts will look to bounce back and level the series after a dismal outing in the series opener.

England

Despite the majority of the English batting lineup struggling in Hyderabad, Ollie Pope's incredible 196-run knock was vital in turning the huge deficit. Debutant left-arm spinner Tom Hartley's nine-wicket haul was a key factor in England's victory, and he is expected to play a significant role in Visakhapatnam.

England has also bolstered its spin attack with the addition of uncapped Shoaib Bashir, who joined the squad following a visa delay. Coach Brendon McCullum has suggested that Bashir could be part of a four-pronged spin strategy, especially as pace spearhead Mark Wood went wicketless over 25 overs in the previous match. The visitors will hope to replicate their heroics and take a 2-0 lead in the series by securing a win at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.

IND vs ENG 2nd Test: ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium Visakhapatnam Pitch Report

The pitch at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, known for being batting-friendly while offering assistance to both pacers and spinners as the match progresses, is anticipated to favour spinners. However, the black soil pitches in Visakhapatnam are expected to offer less bounce than Hyderabad, marking the city's first Test match in nearly five years. Historical data from the two Tests played here suggests an advantage for the team batting first, with both victories going to the side that set the initial total.

As both teams prepare for the upcoming second Test of IND vs ENG Test series, the toss could play a crucial role in the match's outcome, with the winning captain likely to opt for batting first to capitalize on the more favourable conditions at the start.
