The Mumbai team is set to receive a major boost as the prodgious opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has been given the green light to return to competitive cricket. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru has declared Shaw fit, paving the way for his participation in Mumbai's upcoming Ranji Trophy fixture against Bengal in Kolkata, scheduled to commence on February 2.

This much-anticipated comeback marks the end of a challenging six-month period for Shaw, who was sidelined due to a knee injury. Shaw's injury occurred during a one-day match for Northamptonshire in August.

At the time of his injury, he was delivering impressive performances, having scored a formidable 244 and an unbeaten 125 in his preceding innings, highlighting his exceptional batting prowess.

According to a BCCI official, the board has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) about Shaw's recovery and subsequent fitness clearance.

“He has been declared fit and can take part in the Ranji Trophy games. The BCCI has informed the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) about it,” said a BCCI official.

It is worth mentioning that Shaw's rehabilitation journey at the NCA in Bengaluru has been marked by intensive training and practice sessions in the nets. His recovery was closely monitored following the diagnosis of a grade-II tear of the posterior cruciate ligament, an injury confirmed by an MRI scan.

Meanwhile, Shaw's career, since his debut for the Indian team in 2018, hasn’t taken off. He has appeared in five Test matches, six One Day Internationals (ODIs), and a single T20 International. However, his aggressive style and flair at the top of the order have been significant assets for the teams he has represented.
