The roar of the Tigers echoed once again at the Jadavpur University Campus as Kolkata Tigers Women defended their crown and clinched back-to-back titles in the Bengal Women’s Pro T20 League 2025. In a rain-curtailed final against Malda Smashers Women, it was a low-scoring affair where the Tigers held their nerve and came out on top by 16 runs via the DLS method.
Tigers Scrap Their Way To 104
Kolkata Tigers didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard, but they fought tooth and nail for every run. After being invited to bat, the innings never really took off. Wickets kept tumbling like dominoes.
But one batter stood tall amidst the collapse: Mitali Paul. The opener played a mature hand, anchoring the innings with a solid 51 off 52 balls. She didn’t go berserk but played the sheet-anchor role to perfection.
The rest of the batting, though, left much to be desired. Sujata Dey, Ankita Mahanta, and Prativa Mandi all fell cheaply. No batter apart from Paul even crossed 12. The Tigers eventually folded for 104 in 19.5 overs and at that point, it looked like Malda Smashers had one hand on the trophy.
Parveen And Barman Tighten The Screws
Malda’s bowlers had done the hard work. Jeni Parveen was the standout, finishing with figures of 3 for 7 in 1.5 overs. Aruna Barman and Jhumia Khatun also chipped in with a wicket apiece. It was a disciplined bowling show that restricted Kolkata below par. But cricket, as we know, is a funny game.
Early Wickets And The Sky Opens up
Chasing 105, Malda needed a steady start. Instead, they got a nightmare. Prativa Mandi and Mitali Paul turned wreckers-in-chief with the ball. Mandi picked up both openers Aruna Barman and Sneha Mahato for ducks. Then Mitali Paul came back to haunt Malda again, picking up two more quick ones.
In no time, Malda found themselves at 22/4 in 5.2 overs. And just when they needed to regroup, the rain gods had other plans. The heavens opened up and with no further play possible, the DLS method handed Kolkata a 16-run win and with it, their second straight Bengal Women’s Pro T20 League title.
Defending Champions Do It Again
It wasn’t a flawless performance. It wasn’t a blockbuster final but it was gutsy. The Tigers pulled out a gritty win when the chips were down. With the ball, they were clinical. With the bat, Mitali Paul was the glue.
From leading the runs to picking up crucial wickets, Paul was hands down the star of the show. A proper all-round performance in a pressure final.
