The Women’s T20 World Cup may still be a year away but the preparations have well and truly begun as India Women (IND-W) gear up to face England Women (ENG-W) in the 1st T20I of the five-match series. The much-awaited face-off will take place at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Saturday, June 28 at 7:00 PM IST.

England Women

England Women will be without former skipper Heather Knight, who is nursing a hamstring injury. However, the return of Sophie Ecclestone is a big plus for the hosts. Under the leadership of Nat Sciver-Brunt, England still boasts a strong side with Tammy Beaumont, Sophia Dunkley and Issy Wong in the mix.

Charlie Dean and Lauren Bell add teeth to the bowling unit and England will look to maintain their home dominance. Expect them to come hard at India, especially with the bat-friendly Trent Bridge pitch on offer.

India Women

Meanwhile, with conditions in England likely to play a huge role in next year’s World Cup, India Women have named a balanced squad. The return of Shafali Verma adds firepower at the top, while all eyes will also be on Sneh Rana, who is making her T20I comeback after over a year. New faces like Kranti Goud, Sree Charani and Sayali Satghare bring freshness to the squad.

Amanjot Kaur is another name to watch out for as a fast bowling all-rounder, especially with regulars Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar missing the series due to injuries. Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues will be key with the bat while Deepti Sharma will once again be expected to deliver with both ball and bat.

How Will The Trent Bridge Pitch Behave?

Trent Bridge is a run-fest waiting to happen. It is a track for batters with even bounce and minimal lateral movement. However, there is just enough in it for spinners to make an impact, especially as the match progresses. Pacers who can use cutters and variations effectively will be more successful here. Teams batting first have generally done well and anything above 160 will be a par score.
