On a blockbuster Sunday, Sri Lanka will host New Zealand in the second ODI of the 3-game series. The exciting and crucial matchup will begin from 2.30 PM IST at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lanka won the first ODI held at Dambulla by a significant margin of 45 runs. Batting first on a hitter-friendly wicket, Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando scored 206 runs together for the second wicket. While Mendis slammed 143 off 128 balls, Avishka also hammered 100 off 115 balls to lead Sri Lanka to a comprehensive 324/5 first-inning total. 

Meanwhile, due to relentless rain, the match was reduced to 27 overs and chasing the revised total of 221, New Zealand were bowled out for 175/9, thus falling 45 runs short. Indeed, the visitors have to rethink their strategy before they step out for the must-win game in Pallekele.

Interestingly, the ODI series action will move from Dambulla to Pallekek as the second and third ODIs will be played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Hence, ahead of the 2nd ODI, let's look at the weather report for November 17.

Weather at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on November 17 is expected to be sunny and humid, with a couple of rain showers expected in the afternoon. According to Accuweather, the maximum temperature will be around 31° Celsius, but humidity will soar the feel-like temperature to 38°. 

Most importantly, 72% precipitation chances exist with 42% cloud cover, meaning the threat of rain delay will loom large and also impact playing conditions. Cold breeze will assist the pacers initially with the new ball, but wet outfield in second half will reverse the conditions significantly. Hence, bowling first is a wise choice, given the weather conditions. 

Overall, rain will play spoilsport in the 2nd ODI between Sri Lanka and New Zealand. The only thing that can ensure a full 100-over game is excellent drainage facilities and better readiness from groundsmen.
