Ahead of their final three league matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Delhi Capitals (DC) are set to promote experienced batter KL Rahul to the top of the batting order. The Axar Patel-led side is currently placed fifth on the points table with 13 points from 11 games and is looking to bring stability and consistency to its batting as the race to the playoffs heats up.
According to a report by The Times of India, Rahul is likely to open the innings in the remaining league matches against GT, MI, and PBKS. The decision comes amid ongoing struggles in DC’s top-order and the need to maximise powerplay opportunities with an experienced hand like KL Rahul.
KL Rahul's IPL Season So Far
Rahul has featured in 10 matches this season, has had a mixed campaign. While he has batted predominantly at No. 4 the role he was assigned before the season began. The DC star opened only once and slotted in at No. 3 on two occasions this season.
Despite some decent returns in the middle-order, the DC think-tank is now keen on halting the continuous shuffling at the top and utilising KL Rahul’s composure in high-pressure scenarios.
The inconsistency of Jake Fraser-McGurk and an injury to Faf du Plessis have forced multiple changes in DC’s top three. With just three league matches remaining, the Capitals are hoping Rahul’s move back to the top will bring much-needed solidity and set the tone for the innings.
DC IPL Tournament So Far
Delhi began IPL 2025 on a strong note but lost momentum midway through the season. The team has struggled to regain form and cohesion. With seven teams still in playoff contention, every game is now a virtual knockout, and DC must win at least two of their remaining three matches to stay in the hunt.
The Capitals will resume their campaign against Gujarat Titans at home on Sunday, followed with the away fixture against MI and their final league match against Punjab Kings in Jaipur.
