Shubman Gill might have been the leading run-getter in the ongoing Test series between India and England, but KL Rahul has stolen the limelight from him by playing crucial knocks in tough situations. He has been India's best bet in difficult times and in the ongoing series, the talented batter has once again proven his worth at the top of the order.
The 4th Test match of the series holds utmost importance for India as they aim to level the 5-match series. The match is also critical for opener, KL Rahul, who needs just 11 runs to join Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Rahul Dravid in an elite list.
KL Rahul 11 runs away from entering 1000-run club
Interestingly, KL Rahul is one of the best overseas Test batters to have played in England, and the opener needs just 11 more runs in the 4th Test at Manchester to become the fourth Indian batter to accumulate 1,000 Test runs in England. The first three batters to have attained the milestone are Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar.
Currently, KL Rahul has 989 runs in 12 Tests in England, at an average of 41.20, including 4 centuries, and could join a special list by scoring 11 more runs.
Tendulkar had 1,575 runs in 17 Tests in England, while Dravid had 1,376 runs in 13 matches, and Gavaskar accumulated 1,152 runs in 16 Tests.
KL Rahul's outstanding England tour
The ongoing England tour has been a revelation for the Indian opener, who was often criticised for not being consistent enough. However, this tour has slashed all doubts about KL Rahul's ability as the batter has already racked up 375 runs in 3 matches, with an average of 62.50.
He started the series with a terrific hundred at Headingley, Leeds, and continued the momentum with a solid 55 in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test.
However, the best innings came in the Lord's Test as he smacked a commanding 100 off 177 balls and took thr momentum from the England camp.
