After retiring from all forms of cricket, Dinesh Karthik entered a new arena in his cricket career. Though he hung up his boots, he stayed close to the game by joining Royal Challengers Bangalore as their mentor.

In the last season, the RCB lifted their maiden IPL trophy, and Dinesh Karthik’s contribution deserves massive credit. In a recent podcast, RCB analyst Freddie Wilde even drew parallels between Karthik and a former Indian bowling great, highlighting his impact as a mentor.

Wilde Applauds DK’s Masterclass From The Dugout

After bidding adieu to the game, Dinesh Karthik joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore as their mentor and batting coach. This time, the cricket world witnessed his effectiveness beyond the boundary line. After the Indian wicketkeeper-batter joined, the franchise ended their long drought and lifted their maiden IPL trophy.

In the IPL 2025 season, players have spoken about Dinesh Karthik’s role in the season, and now RCB’s analyst Freddie Wilde has joined the fray. Speaking to the Love of Cricket podcast, he compared DK’s animated dugout presence to Ashish Nehra, praising his tactical field moves like a sharp football manager.

“DK was very animated, similar to Ashish Nehra, in terms of moving fielders & making adjustments - in couple of tight games, where DK made small adjustments to the field as a football manager do - I think it was against CSK, where he moved third man fractionally finer, by a few meters and ball went to straight to that guy,” he said.

RCB’s Trouble Becomes Big

Even after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifted their maiden IPL trophy after 18 years, their joyous celebration turned into a forgettable one. A stampede at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium left 11 dead and 70 injured. With the legal battle ongoing, the latest verdict has only added to the franchise’s troubles.

The Karnataka government has approved the filing of criminal cases against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Karnataka State Cricket Association. This decision comes after the Justice Michael D'Cunha Commission’s final report, which points out the involvement of RCB officials and senior Bengaluru police officers.
