IPL 2024 season champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were announced as club of the year award winners at the Indian Sports Honours 2024 edition. The team won their third IPL title this year and had a phenomenal season overall.
Gautam Gambhir’s return as mentor changed the fate of Kolkata Knight Riders as they had a dream run in the IPL 2024 season. They first grabbed the headline by buying Mitchell Starc for INR 24.75 crores at the auction table. During the season, some uncharacteristic strategic calls by Gambhir surprised many. But it was all in the plans as the mentor’s vision turned into a reality on 26th May.
KKR honoured at Indian Sports Honours
KKR beat SRH in a one-sided contest to lift their 3rd IPL title. Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana dismantled SRH’s powerhouse batting lineup to bowl them out for 113 runs. The chase was a cakewalk for Venkatesh Iyer and Gurbaz as KKR won the game by 8 wickets in just 10.3 overs.
Meanwhile, to honour their glorious IPL 2024 season campaign, Indian Sports Honours awarded KKR with the Club of the Year honours. KKR from IPL, RCB Women from WPL and Puneri Paltan from PKL, were announced as joint winners for the special award.
A couple of executives from the franchise went on to the stage to collect the award as KKR added another silverware to their trophy cabinet.
However, the tables will once again turn for KKR in IPL 2025. Besides the mega auction, Gautam Gambhir has left the franchise to serve the nation, which is a major dent in their future.
KKR to play at Eden Gardens in IPL 2025
Days leading up to the IPL 2025 mega auction, rumours surfaced that KKR matches will be shifted to another venue as Eden Gardens is getting renovated soon. However, CAB chief Snehasish Ganguly cleared the air saying the speculations are baseless and Eden Gardens will host every home game for KKR in IPL 2025. Ganguly added that the board is yet to receive a green light to even plan a renovation.
