Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi reacted to Pakistan's first ODI defeat against Australia and backed the players for showing a fighting spirit. He noted that the men in green showed courage, and he is confident that the boys would make the country proud in the future.

Under a new captain, Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan featured in the first ODI of the 3-game series against Australia earlier today at MCG. Rizwan's 44 off 71 balls, followed by Naseem Shah's fighting 40 off 39 balls, guided the visitors to a respectable total of 203 runs.

While Australia had a cruising start, stacking up 139 runs in 19.4 overs, Pakistani bowlers fought back. Haris Rauf struck twice in the 21st over to induce a collapse. Aussies went down to 139/6 in just 2 overs before Pat Cummins took charge to score 32 off 31 balls and guide his team to a narrow 2-wicket victory.

PCB Chief impressed with Pakistan's fightback

That being said, despite the defeat, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi praised the Pakistan team on social media. He took to Twitter to acknowledge Pakistan's fighting spirit and encouraged them to keep pushing for desired results.

Notably, PCB chairman made wholesome changes to the ODI setup following Babar Azam's resignation as captain. Besides appointing Rizwan as white-ball format captain, the Aaqib Javed led selection committee also included fresh faces in the squad to bolster bench strength.

With 2 games still left in the ODI series, Pakistan have enough room for redemption. The second game will go on floors on November 8 at the Adelaide Oval.

Babar Azam's failed redemption gets him trolled

Pakistan's former captain Babar Azam vowed to redeem himself in the ODI series against Australia after getting dropped from the home Test series against England. However, his revenge lasted only 44 balls. Batting on 37, Azam was castled by Adam Zampa.

Babar misread the length of the ball, and instead of tackling it on the front foot, he stayed back into the crease to see the ball skid through off low bounce and crash into the stumps. With another failure amid a horror run, fans' backlash was inevitable.
