On Sunday, September 22, New Zealand's star batter Kane Williamson entered the history books as he went past Ross Taylor to become New Zealand's leading run-getter across all formats. Williamson scripted the historic milestone in the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium.

Before the first Test against Sri Lanka, Williamson needed 72 runs to break Taylor's record. He achieved the feat during his 30-run knock in the second innings. The 34-year-old scored a brilliant fifty in the first innings and with 30-runs in the second innings, he scripted history.

The former New Zealand red-ball skipper has amassed 85 runs in the series opener and taken his run-tally in international cricket to 18,213 runs in 359 matches for the Blackcaps. Meanwhile, Taylor is second on the list with 18,199 runs. Here is the complete list of most runs for the Blackcaps in international cricket.

  • Kane Williamson – 18,213
  • Ross Taylor – 18,199
  • Stephen Fleming – 15,289
  • Brendon McCullum – 14,676
  • Martin Guptill – 13,463

Kane Williamson: An All-Format Player

Williamson has made a name for himself as a great Test player and is also New Zealand's leading run-getter in red-ball cricket with 8828 runs in 101 Tests. However, Williamson has 6810 ODI runs in 165 games. Further, he is New Zealand's 2nd leading run-getter in T20Is with 2575 runs in 93 T20Is.

Talking about 2024, Williamson is having a blast as he has already amassed 565 runs in five Test matches, which includes three centuries and two fifty-plus scores.

Interestingly, Williamson is often compared with Virat Kohli, Joe Root, and Steve Smith in Test cricket and have this elite group of 'Fab Four'. However, he is the second member of the 'Fab Four' after Joe Root to be the leading run-getter in international cricket for their country as neither Virat nor Smith hold this milestone.
