Cricket-enthusiast Sushant Mehta has landed in troubled waters after he released a three-year-old video on January 16 regarding his controversial remark on Islamic leader.

Mehta had passed objectionable comments during a show ‘Cinema Yaari’, which went on to irk a number of fans, primarily in Pakistan.

Sushant Mehta apologizes for controversial remarks

Prominent journalist Sushant Mehta has apologized for his controversial remarks on the religious leader after his three-year-old video resurfaced on social media.

Mehta, who runs the popular YouTube channel Sports Yaari, claimed that his agenda was not to hurt anyone’s sentiment and added that a number of stand-up comedians have previously joked about Hindu deities and gods.

He also mocked a number of Pakistan fans for stirring up the issue on social media. Interestingly, the journalist has been known for raking up controversies, by aiming severe criticism at Pakistan’s premier batsman Babar Azam.

Defending himself for his fresh controversy, he explained:“Firstly, people grow a lot sensitive when such a topic comes along. Only 2-3 videos out of all in Cinema Yaari might be there when we speak on such issues. Munawar Farooqi said something funny about Lord Ram and Sita, Vir Das joked about Ramayana and I don't have a problem with them. If it's funny, I laugh at them myself. But I cracked a joke on Prophet Muhammad and I apologised to those who were offended. My agenda wasn't to hurt anyone's sentiments.”

On his YouTube channel Sports Yaari, Sushant regularly covers India’s as well as international cricketing affairs on a daily basis. He recently attended several World Cup 2023 matches, and has met with Virat Kohli, Haris Rauf and a number of cricketing personalities in his professional career.
