Australia wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis became a big talking point after he was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for a hefty ₹8.60 crores at the IPL mini-auction. However, soon after the auction, questions started being raised about how much of the 2026 IPL season he will actually be available for.

Notably, Inglis has already confirmed that he is getting married in early April, according to Cricbuzz. The IPL 2026 season is scheduled to run from March 26 to May 31, which means his personal plans will clash with a large part of the tournament.

Before the auction, the BCCI had informed franchises that Inglis would only be available for about four matches next season. Despite this, LSG still went all out to secure him, which surprised many teams.

Josh Inglis' marriage plans trigger debate after lucrative auction

Punjab Kings, his former franchise, are especially unhappy. PBKS officials say they released Inglis at the last minute only because he had clearly told them that his availability would be very limited. They even informed the BCCI about releasing him just 45 minutes before the retention deadline.

According to PBKS co-owner Ness Wadia, Inglis had told them his wedding was on April 18 and that he would leave immediately for his honeymoon, making him available only for 10–14 days towards the end of May. Based on this information, they decided not to retain him.

PBKS co-owner Ness Wadia said that Josh Inglis was one of the players the franchise wanted to retain for IPL 2026.

"We didn't really let go of Josh. I mean, Josh unfortunately, sadly, only told us at the last minute, which was not very fair given that he had been with us for a while," Wadia told The Hindu.

What shocked PBKS even more was seeing a bidding war at the auction between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants, which pushed Inglis’ price up by ₹6 crore from his previous salary. This led to speculation that some teams may have known more about Inglis’ plans than others.

According to Cricbuzz, an SRH official later explained that personal plans can change and that teams believed Inglis could be convinced to play more matches after the auction.

"Look, he obviously was going to be out for personal reasons. And that's always subject to change. You never know - people can make different decisions once the auction is done. So, we thought that with the relationship Dan and him have, he could maybe convince him to play a few extra games. And that's where it came from,"  Varun Aaron told the media after the auction.

There are now reports that Inglis might shorten or delay his honeymoon and return soon after his wedding. Some sources even suggest he could start the season, leave briefly for the wedding, and then rejoin the squad.
