In the 31st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the iconic Eden Gardens on April 16, 2024 (Tuesday). 

In a thrilling and nail-biting encounter, Sanju Samson's side won the match by two wickets, courtesy Jos Buttler's exceptional batting show, he struck an unbeaten knock of 107* in 60 balls that included nine fours and six maximums. 

Sunil Narine's maiden IPL hundred (109 runs in 49 balls) and his heroics with the ball went in vain for the Knight Riders, who missed out on an opportunity to top the IPL 2024 points table.


Kolkata Knight Riders Fined For Maintaining Slow Over Rate

Following the excruciating loss, the franchise received another bad news, the IPL organisers fined captain Shreyas Iyer Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during their match against Rajasthan. 

The IPL match between the KKR and RR ended around 11:35 pm, well past the scheduled finish time. This marked the first offence for Kolkata this season under the IPL's Code of Conduct about minimum over-rate violations. 

"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the IPL said in a release.

KKR bowlers, especially Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora, were taken to the cleaners by Jos Buttler and company as they leaked 95 runs in 7 overs between them. Meanwhile, the RR collected 96 runs in the last five over of the chase on Tuesday.

Earlier in the IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 24 lakh for two consecutive over-rate offences. The rest of the team was also fined with a deduction of 25% of the match fee.
