On Wednesday, December 18, the ICC updated their weekly ranking charts. Joe Root has reclaimed the top-spot in the best Test batter's standing and has displaced his countryman Harry Brook to become the No.1 Test batter.
Notably, England suffered an embarrassing defeat in their last Test against New Zealand, but Root was the sole star with the bat. Notably, Joe Root scored a fifty in the first innings and played a valuable knock in the 2nd innings as well.
In the latest rankings, Root has bettered his rating to 895, while Brook follows him on the list with a rating of 876. Talking about the Indian players, who recently featured in the Gabba Test, there wasn't much of a change, but interestingly, Rohit Sharma jumped a spot despite a flop show in Australia.
Shubman Gill Jumps A Spot In Test Rankings
Shubman Gill has jumped a place to now rank 16th on the list. Meanwhile, skipper Rohit Sharma is at the 30th place in the Test rankings. Virat Kohli hasn't seen a change in his ranking and is placed at the 20th position.
In the bowling section, Jasprit Bumrah continues to top the bowling chart, while R Ashwin, who is placed fourth on the list, announced his retirement from international cricket on December 13. Meanwhile, R Jadeja, who featured in the recently concluded match at the Gabba, is placed below Ashwin in the list.
